Why this page matters

Most dental websites treat the team page as a formality. We think it's one of the most useful pages here.

If you're nervous about an appointment, and a great many people are, knowing something about the person holding the mirror makes a real difference. So everyone here has shared where they trained, what they love about the work, and one or two things about themselves that have nothing to do with teeth.

Dr. Michel Séguin, BDS

Owner & Principal Dentist

Dr. Michel Séguin graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from James Cook University in Australia. He moved from Ontario to join Seven Sails Dental Centre in 2020, and became the clinic's owner in 2025. What he enjoys most about leading the practice is the chance to imagine the world he wants to live in, and then make it real.

His philosophy of care is simple: the way we do one thing is the way we do everything. At Seven Sails, “we fight for style points.” Everything is done with precision, care and mastery, even when no one can see it. And we always treat people like people. He values meaningful work and being part of the community.

His training goes well beyond dental school. He completed additional training in oral medicine, oral pathology and oral surgery in Sri Lanka, followed by extensive advanced education in lasers and implants. He is highly skilled in laser dentistry and uses the Solea laser, which allows many procedures to be virtually pain-free, often without needles or drilling. His clinical focus also includes dental implants, aesthetic dentistry and advanced surgical procedures.

Dr. Séguin loves that Vancouver Island feels like the edge of the world, a little wild and free. He flies single-engine airplanes in search of adventure, and his favourite film is Top Gun: Maverick, for its message that in a rapidly changing world, what matters most is the person in the cockpit. He is a strong supporter of the arts and believes in the power of storytelling.

And if you'd like to make his day, he responds very positively to flattery and delicious baked goods.

Portrait of Dr. Alex Fan smiling

Dr. Alex Fan, DMD

General Dentist

Dr. Alex Fan believes great dental care starts with listening. He takes a patient-centred approach to everything he does, always putting his patients' needs first. When it comes to treatment, he takes the time to walk you through all of your options, explaining the risks and benefits of each, so you can make the choice that feels right for you.

If you feel a little nervous about visiting the dentist, Dr. Fan wants you to know that's completely okay. It's normal to feel anxious, and the whole team is always happy to see you. What he enjoys most about dentistry is meeting people from all walks of life and helping them achieve a healthy smile, and he finds it especially rewarding when someone who came in with discomfort leaves feeling relief.

Dr. Fan earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of British Columbia. His areas of clinical interest include oral surgery, endodontics (root canal therapy) and restorative dentistry. He is a member of the British Columbia Dental Association, and is happy to care for patients in English or Mandarin.

Outside the practice, Dr. Fan loves spending time with his wife and their cat, Amber. He enjoys hiking and trying out new recipes, and one of his favourite places on Vancouver Island is Cathedral Grove, where he loves to lose himself among the towering old-growth trees.
