Can't you just patch it or stick it back on?

A smile with a chipped front tooth

It depends. Picture this: you break a chunk of tooth or a crown comes off right at the gum line just before your vacation. Yes, it can be patched and it will probably get you through. But "probably" is the problem. A patch is like driving on a spare tire, good for the short term, not meant for the highway. Infections that really need root canals and teeth that really need crowns eventually fail if only patched. A crown broken off at the gumline often needs extraction, not glue. Long term, every dental fix will fail someday, but some options are far more predictable than others. If it's within your means, choose the treatment your dentist considers best, not the quickest or the cheapest.

This article is general information, not a diagnosis. Every mouth is different, so the best answer for you comes from an exam and a conversation with your dental team.
